Free Help in Completing Financial Aid Forms

“Are you planning on attending a college or technology center in 2012? Do you want help completing your financial aid application?” asks Kara Vanhoy, financial aid counselor.  “TN Technology Center @ Crossville is the site of a free seminar on Sunday, February 12 starting at 2pm in Room 209 in Building 2.  Pre-registration is not necessary.  We encourage high school seniors along with their parents and also non-traditional older students to attend.  Professionals will be available to answer your individual questions.  Our goal is to help students complete their application for free money no matter which university, college or technology center they plan on attending.”

“The FAFSA serves as the application for federal aid; it also serves as the application for the TN Education Lottery Scholarship and the TN Student Assistance Award programs.  There is no fee to apply for financial aid using the FAFSA.  And there is no penalty if, at a later date, you decide not to use the aid,” Vanhoy states further.  “Even if you believe that you are ineligible to receive financial aid because your 2011 income was too high, you might want to attend anyway.  Remember that the Lottery Scholarship used at technology centers is based on residency not income.  If you have lived in Tennessee for a year, you should be eligible to receive the $2,000 yearly award.”

For complete information on the “College Goal Tennessee” seminars being held across the state, visit www.tn.gov/CollegeGoalSunday.  Students are encouraged to review the information on the website prior to arriving to insure they bring all of the necessary documents including 2011 federal tax information.  “If you do not have Internet access, contact Student Services at 931.484.7502 and we can provide a list of documents you need to bring,” suggests Vanhoy.

The seminar consists of a presentation and a question and answer session.  Computers will be available for those wishing to submit their applications while at the seminar.
