Computer Information Technology
This program is instructed by Betty Parker. The Computer Information Technology Program prepares students to become Computer Technicians, Network Technicians, Security Specialists, Information Technology Specialist, and Information Technology Systems Coordinators. Computer Technician troubleshoot, repair and maintain personal and business computers. Network Technicians build and maintain networks used by business, educations, government, and health-care institutions. Network linking desktop computers allow users to send electronic mail (e-mail) and to share data, computer applications, and Internet connections. As more institutions establish computer networks, the demand for skilled computer network technicans will grow. A Computer Security Specialist ensure the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of a network and data.
Job Opportunities:
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, job growth for a Computer Support Specialists is projected to be faster than the average for all occupations.
Employment of computer support specialists is expected to increase by 14 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for these workers will result as organizations and individuals continue to adopt the newest forms of technology. As technology becomes more complex and widespread, support specialists will be needed in greater numbers to resolve the technical problems that arise. Businesses, especially, will demand greater levels of support, as information technology has become essential in the business environment.
Type of Individual Best Suited for this Position:
Because computer technology changes so rapidly, operators must be adaptable and willing to constantly update skills. Computer techs must be able to communicate well in order to work effectively with others. They must be able to work independently because they may have little or no supervision.
