Business Systems Technology
This program is instructed by Sharon Barnes. BST provides the student with entry-level skills needed for a variety of administrative professional positions. Students receive practical experience on state-of-the-art equipment and study current versions of word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software. The curriculum emphasizes the use of technology as well as the development of ethics, interpersonal skills, and professional skills.
During the first two trimesters, all students complete a set of Core Courses. Upon successful completion of the Core Courses, each student may choose one of four areas of specialization:
Administrative Assistant with Accounting Emphasis includes accounting, payroll, and computerized accounting.
Administrative Assistant with Customer Service Technology Emphasis includes advanced telecommunications, customer relations management and ethics, public communication, collections management, and customer service technology trends.
Medical Administrative Assistant with Transcription Emphasis includes medical terminology, medical ethics, medical office procedures, and medical transcription.
Medical Administrative Assistant with Insurance & Coding Emphasis includes medical terminology, medical ethics, medical office procedures, introduction to medical insurance, introduction to medical coding, and electronic health records.
