Most FAQ’s About TN Technology Center @ Crossville. . .
When is registration?
TTCC accepts Application Packets as early as the senior year in high school. Application Packets may be submitted throughout the year. After completing an Application Packet (1-application for enrollment, 2-high school/GED transcript/diploma, and 3-completed immunization form with documentation) and 4-attending a Pre-Enrollment Session (PES), your name is added to the waiting list. Some programs have long waiting lists and some have short waiting lists. Check with Student Services personnel for details. Apply NOW.
Will my high school credits transfer to TTCC?
In many cases, dual enrollment credit earned in high school will be accepted at TTCC. Should you wait several years before enrolling at TTCC, you will probably be asked by your TTCC instructor to demonstrate that you can still perform the tasks before receiving TTCC credit.
Will my TTCC credits transfer to a community college?
A diploma from TTCC will transfer as 30 credit hours to any TN community college. After earning additional credit at the community college, you will be awarded an A.A.S. General Technology Degree. Check with the TTCC and community college counselors for details.
How long is the training at TTCC?
TTCC programs vary in length from 12 months to 20 months. This is an average estimated time to complete a program. Because most TTCC programs are self-paced, and because credit is given for prior knowledge and experience, the times needed to graduate will vary from one person to the next. As soon as all tasks are completed successfully, a certificate/diploma is awarded.
How soon may I start at TTCC?
Most TTCC programs accept new students every month throughout the year as space is available. The first step is to submit a completed Application Packet. Surgical Technology and Practical Nursing are offered only once a year and require a passing score on the entrance test. Check with TTCC for details.
Is there an Entrance Test?
All students must have a vocational goal and plan on seeking employment after graduation. Only health career programs such as Practical Nursing and Surgical Technology require passing scores on an entrance test. Check with TTCC for details and schedules.
Will you find me a job?
TTCC will provide you with quality training. We will help you with your employment skills. We will help you in your job search. But it is up to you to find employment. In many cases, employers call the Center seeking good employees. Please understand that potential employers will be interested in your grades including work ethics, and your attendance. Be sure that your grades are good and that your attendance is excellent.
What is a typical day like at a TTCC?
A full-time student will spend 30 hours per week in class. The usual schedule is six hours a day, five days a week in class. Your time will be spent in the classroom or shop area concentrating on your area of interest. Technology Foundations staff will assist your instructor with your math and reading skills. Some programs have part-time slots for students who cannot attend full-time. Prior approval must be given by the TTCC counselor before a student may enroll part-time.
How will I pay for my training?
Because TTCC receives federal and state monies, the student costs are affordable. TTCC students may apply for federal (PELL) and state grant money, scholarships, lottery grants, and agency funding. Check with the Student Services staff for details on funding opportunities. Student loans may not be used at TTCC.
I have more questions, who do I talk to?
TTCC counselors, Barbara Thornhill and Kara Vanhoy are very knowledgeable about the Center. Feel free to talk with them about any of your concerns. It is usually not a good idea to take advice from another student or someone other than a counselor. Each situation may be different.
