Angela Bunn, a practical nursing student at TTC Crossville, is the recipient of the prestigious 2009 Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award.  Angela was nominated by her instructor, Betty Baxter, for her volunteer work to increase autism awareness.  After her son was diagnosed with autism she embarked on a crusade to gather support and offer assistance to other parents whose children suffer from this disorder.  She has organized numerous support groups, such as, Mothers Moving Mountains and Dads Do it Daily, which are now affiliates of the National Autism Association.  She has organized rallies, workshops and fundraisers for the cause.  She has attended and represented Tennessee in Washington DC in an effort to address pharmaceutical issues linked to the immunization of children and autism.  It is not surprising that Angela has chosen a career path in health care.  Her dedication to her fellow man in helping to alleviate the pain and suffering of families who have children with autism indicates that she is a person whose calling is to nurture and care for those in need.  Her work has been totally voluntary and without compensation.  Angela’s goal is to provide information to parents of children with autism, raise awareness of this disability, and provide an organized voice on behalf of all persons suffering from autism.  “I know I can’t fix my son, but one thing I can do is educate the community about him.”  Angela lives with her family in Dayton, TN.
