Adult Education
Adult education offers basic skills and GED preparation to individuals over the age of 18.
Adult education is located in the Tennessee Career Center (1 block behind Long John Silver’s)
Upon entrance to the program, each individual must complete the two day Orientation and Assessment process. The assessment includes the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and the Official Practice Test (OPT). Please call the office for the Orientation schedule. A valid driver’s license and social security card must be presented at Orientation.
GED – any student passing the Official Practice Test will be scheduled for the GED test. The cost of the test is $55.00. The GED test is given at the Tennessee Technology Center on Monday and Tuesday evening. If this testing schedule is not convenient, there are other test sites available if you wish to travel out of the county.
BASIC SKILLS - If a student does not pass the Official Practice Test, adult education staff is able to identify skills missed on the test. Classes are available to work on those skill areas.
CLASSES – With the new curriculum for adult education, classes run in six-week cycles. Students who attend class and participate in the learning process earn the GED.
