The
Technology Foundations program is instructed by
Darlene
Winningham. She assists each student in becoming more proficient in the
areas of reading, language, and math--skills that are basic to all education,
training, employment, and life in general. Additional study is available at
the student's or instructor's request on the skills of listening, locating information,
teamwork, data skills, life and job skills, technical skills and writing in
the workplace.
This program is individualized according to the
specific needs of each student under the guidance of Ms. Darlene Winningham.
Students learn at their own pace in a positive, non-threatening environment
that is sensitive to their individual needs. A computer-based educational program
is used to assist in the instructional process. Not only is the program designed
to assist students enrolled in the full-time programs, but it is also available
to individuals who desire to enroll solely to improve their skills or prepare
for the NET for nursing, the GED, and the ACT and Compass for college.
Technology Foundations is a unique
opportunity for the students to improve their reading, math, language and data
skills needed to perform well in the shop areas. Many students have been out
of school for an extended period of time and may need to review math, reading
or language skills just to refresh their memories. Others may never have been
proficient in these areas, and this class is the student's second chance to
perfect these skills. Some may be learning these skills for the first time,
now with a strong incentive to learn in order to succeed in their shops. This
learning environment encourages students to ask questions one on one with the
instructor promoting a more open, less traditional classroom atmosphere. Helping
people meet their goals-- whether it is passing an entrance exam or becoming
better prepared for the work force--that is what the Technology Foundations
program is all about.
