Course Description:
This course is instructed by
Kathy Kleinsmith,
Belinda Bumbalough,
Greg Sherrill
and Betty
Baxter. It provides the students with
classroom instructions and clinical experiences under the close supervision
of the registered nurse instructors and hospital personnel. Study in nutrition,
growth and development, the body systems, personal and community health and
related subjects prepares students to pass the state board examination to be
licensed.

Enrollment Procedure
The enrollment procedure for this program is very strict. It begins
with registering to take the entrance test. Failure to pass the test or
complete any enrollment step on the specified schedule may result in
disqualification. Admission is open to all adults who complete the following:
* Register for and pass the entrance test
* Furnish high school or GED transcript
* Participate in registration, group session, and personal interview
* Pass a physical exam
* Update immunizations to required standards
* Warning! Prior convictions or probations may prevent state licensing.
The following will be required prior to beginning the clinical training:
* Evaluation of competency in basic math skills
* Certification in BLS CPR for healthcare providers from the American Heart
Association
* Drug screening
* Background investigation prior to the approval for licensure examination
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN's) are trained to perform selected
tasks in the care of sick, injured or infirmed. LPN's work under the
supervision of physicians and registered nurses. They perform bedside tasks in caring for all
types of patients. Typical tasks include the following:
* Patient Assessments
* Medication administration
* Treatment and procedures
* Patient advocacy and education
* Post-mortem care
Students exiting after the first term may sit for the CNA certification test.
Exit Points Award Hours/Months
Practical Nurse Diploma 1296/12 or 1296/18
Enrollment: Check with the Student Services office for a schedule.
Length of program: Day -- 12 months; Modified -- 18 months.
Grades: Each unit of study must be passed with a C; an overall C average must be maintained; clinicals must be satisfactory.
Cost: First Day: $1,800 in books/supplies/tuition/fees* Total: under $6,000
